Go Faster Food ambassador Robert Poth, GB Alpine Ski Racer and European Youth Winter Olympian, has just been selected for the World Junior Alpine Championships in Davos and right now he’s half way up a mountain competing for the British Army. Rob has worked with Kate Percy and the Go Faster Food team for several years and was part of the original team to help craft Kate Percy’s Go Bites® energy balls.
Here he talks energy balls and go-getting his goals.
“The Go Faster Food cook books have been a massive help to my Alpine ski racing career. From an early age my Mum was preparing and cooking healthy nutritious meals for all the family using Kate Percy’s recipes and then some time later I was proud to be invited to be a case study athlete for the Children’s Go Faster Food book – I’m now 20 and training abroad full time as a GB U21 Alpine Ski Racer.
I continue to prepare healthy favourite recipes from the book – the Sweet Chilli Pork burgers and the spicy tomato and lentil soup – are favourites. Eating healthy, nutritious food is essential to fuel the body for training and racing success whether it be in the gym or ski training sessions out on the mountain. Go Bites energy balls are great for refuelling along with fruit smoothies which I have ahead of a training session. Before Go Bites, I would take home-made versions with me on the mountain but now the individually wrapped Go Bites are perfect for zipping into a ski jacket pocket or in my gym bag for convenience during the day when I need an extra boost – my favourites are the purple ones, Hazelnut & Cacao, utterly delicious. They’re made to Kate’s original recipe that I used to follow, so they taste home-made and you know they’re good for you – no rubbish, everything one hundred percent natural.
I have been training and racing in Sierre Chevalier , France and I am beyond excited to have been selected for the 2018 World Junior Alpine Ski Racing Championships to be held in Davos, Switzerland next week! Anytime now I am hoping for the official selection notification from the British Ski and Snowboarding office. Last year, I was selected to the 2017 World Junior Championships in Sweden which was an amazing experience.
Later, in February I’ll be at the English Alpine Championships which is held in Bormio, Italy. I am currently the 2017 Overall English Alpine Champion so the pressure’s on to defend my title! Late on in the season I’ll be competing in various FIS International ski races which take me into March where I will compete at the 2018 Delancey British Alpine Championships held in Tignes, France.
It’s a very busy programme – I’ve got nutrition and Go Bites (as well as my mum!) on my side. Wish me luck! “
